PM Modi inaugurates Kanpur Metro; Here’s all about India's fastest built project

Kanpur, December 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, inaugurated the completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, and also took a metro ride. According to Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), improving urban mobility has been one of the main focus areas of the PM.

The completed 9 km long section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project stretches from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel. The entire length of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project is 32 km and has been built at a cost of more than Rs 11,000 crores.
 
 
The PM noted the change of the image for UP. He said, that a state that was known for illegal arms is now the hub of the Defence Corridor, contributing to the safety and security of the country. He also added that double engine governments work day and night to complete the work for which the foundation stones have been laid.

He said, “Our government laid the foundation stone of Kanpur Metro, our government is also dedicating it. Our government laid the foundation stone of Purvanchal Expressway, our own government completed its work.” He spoke about the major achievements like upcoming largest international airport in UP, the longest expressway of India is also getting built here and Dedicated Freight Corridor hub coming up in UP

He stressed that before the year 2014, the total length of the Metro running in UP was 9 km. Between 2014 and 2017, the length of the metro increased to a total of 18 km. If we include Kanpur Metro today, the length of the metro in the state has now exceeded 90 km.

PM also spoke about the world’s first CNG filling station developed in Varanasi by the incubated company of IIT Kanpur. He said, “IITs in the country have always been the incubation centres of talent and technology. The world’s first floating CNG filling station developed in Varanasi by IIT Kanpur is very good.”

Kanpur Metro is to be the fastest built metro project in India. CM Yogi Adityanath started the construction work of the Kanpur metro project on November 15, 2019. The trial run took place on the 9 km IIT to Motijheel Priority Corridor on November 10, 2021, in less than 2 years. Daily commercial operations on the priority corridor will begin from December 31.

PM Modi will inspect the Metro Rail Project and undertake a metro ride from the IIT metro station to Geeta Nagar. Besides, the Metro Rail Project, the PM will also inaugurate the Bina-Panki Multiproduct Pipeline Project. As per the PMO, 356 Km long Bina-Panki Multiproduct Pipeline Project has a capacity of about 3.45 million metric tonnes per annum.
