New Delhi, September 10: In order to boost the government’s Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan initiative, a full span launching equipment of 1100 MT is being developed indigenously by Larsen and Toubro at Kanchipuram, Chennai.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Railway Minister, through a video conference, flagged off Full-Span Launching Equipment – Straddle Career and Girder Transporter. It has been designed and manufactured under ‘Make in India’ initiative to expedite the construction of viaduct for the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor project.
Vaishnaw said that full span launching equipment of 1100MT capacity is indigenously designed and manufactured by M/s Larsen &Toubro at Kanchipuram, Chennai. M/s L&T has partnered with 55 Micro-Small Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Developmental work has already begun in Gujarat on 325 kms out of the 508 kms corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. For the MAHSR project, over 97% land has been acquired by the NHSRCL till now, in Gujarat, Dadar and Nagar Haveli. 30% land has been acquired in Maharashtra.

With improved technology, the method of launching girders for the project will be expedited. As for the double track viaduct, the precast girders of full span length will be erected as a single piece.
