Goa, September 21: Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the helipad at Dhauji Old Goa, near the capital city.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Tourism Shripad Naik and Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Azgaonkar were present on the occasion.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said Goa is not just famous as a national tourist destination, but also an important international destination. He said that after the mandatory military training, the soldiers of the Israeli military choose Goa as their favorite destination, owing to its natural beauty and affordability.
The minister also said that the tourism sector is an important employment generator. The Union government is extending all support for improving the tourism sector in Goa, to create more jobs.
Goa CM, Dr. Pramod Sawant said that the Helipad is renovated at the cost of Rs. 5 cr and will be put to good use for the government and private sector. The focus is on increasing tourism in the state.
The Helipad was made as part of the Swadesh Darshan Coastal circuit theme. This is a Central Sector scheme launched by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India for the integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits.
The idea is positioned such that the tourism sector would become a major engine for job creation, driving force for economic growth, building synergy with man sectors to enable tourism to realise its potential.
