Nagpur, February 14: A proposed bullet train could cut the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to around 3.5 hours from the present 12 hours. The Indian Railways is planning to start bullet train services between Nagpur and Mumbai.
The train will cover about 766km in less than 4 hours, along the soon-to-be-ready Samruddhi Expressway, and could achieve a speed of 350km per hour.
Union minister of state for railways Raosaheb Danve said the development project report (DPR) of the high-speed connectivity project would be ready by February-end. It will be prepared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is also working on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project.
Danve said, “We have proposed this superfast train along the Samruddhi Highway project. We have the advantage of already having 70 per cent land in our possession. We just need to acquire 30 per cent land from private parties."

Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari shared that Danve had discussed the bullet train project during a meeting and “the bullet train would provide another good option for transportation between the two cities”. Danve highlighted that no land would be taken up from farmers, as the entire rail corridor would be on an elevated track. He added, “The train needs a straight corridor. Beyond Igatpuri, there is a curve from where we have to change the train’s path. The DPR report would mention the number of stations on the train’s route.”
The Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed corridor project is among the seven recently proposed by Centre. Also, the 508km Mumbai-Ahmedabad project is in the works, costing over Rs 1. 1 lakh crore, which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The Mumbai-Nagpur project would cost even more considering its run of around 766km.
