New Delhi, Feb 23: In a historic development, Indian Railways has decided to install the plaques in Sanskrit language as well, apart from Hindi, English, and vernacular languages ahead of the Feb 26 mega event where PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of 550 Amrit Bharat stations virtually.

This initiative aligns with the commitment to showcase and promote India's ancient culture and language.

Under the Amrit Bharat stations scheme, the railway stations will have improved facilities by developing rooftop plazas and city centers for Rs 41,000 crore, a significant transformation in India's railway infrastructure. These stations aim to elevate the overall passenger experience.

The PM will also lay the foundation stone of nearly 1,500 road overbridges and under bridges across different states including UP during a function that will be conducted virtually at over 2,000 railway stations.

It involves the preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve amenities at the stations through improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift and escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes such as ‘One Station, One Product’ and better passenger information systems.

The scheme also involves building executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings and landscaping, keeping in view the necessity at each station.
