Nagpur, October 28: More than 10 years after being conceptualized for the first time, the Expenditure Finance Committee / EFC has now approved of the Rs. 2,117 crore Nag River Revitalization project for its revival and revitalization of the river, that gives its name to Nagpur in Maharashtra.
Following the Cabinet's approval, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and an MP from Nagpur, through a series of tweets, said that a time period of 8 years has been fixed for this project. Gadkari had arranged a meeting of the Ministry in New Delhi, of the Nag river in city, Mula and Mutha river of Pune and the irrigation projects in the state.
Gadkari said, “Three STP projects with a capacity of 92 MLD, 500 km sewerage network, pumping station and community toilets would be constructed (as part of this project).”
quality of the Nag river had suffered for many years and decades, owing to the dumping of untreated sewage in it. This project was earlier estimated to cost Rs. 2,434 crore, of which the Nagpur Municipal Corporation / NMC was to raise 15% funding, and the rest was to come from the Japan International Cooperation Agency / JICA. However, the EFC has now approved of Rs. 2117 crore.
