New Delhi, February 8: The new arrivals terminal at the Delhi Airport is ready and will be operational soon. The airport operator, DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd) has announced that the terminal has been completed, and soon the current domestic arrival operations will be moved to new terminal at T1.
While the departures used to take place from the T1(D) building, arrivals happened at T1(C). Once the new arrivals terminal goes operational, the old arrival will be demolished. Under Phase 3A of the airport expansion master plan, a new terminal 1 will have both departures and arrivals under the same roof.
Talking about the same, Delhi Airport tweeted, "We're gearing up to welcome you to the New arrival terminal of Delhi Airport's T1, which is set to offer you a distinctive experience!" “The terminal is ready and last-minute checks will be carried out over the course of the week," the official said, the Hindustan Times (HT) reported. Currently, three terminals are operational, such as T1, T2 and T3.
The new arrivals terminal has been built across 8,000 square metres and is equipped with four new baggage reclaim carousels. As a part of Global Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), it's green in colour, with a daylight concept incorporated in the overall structure.
The pickup lanes outside the terminal have been realigned, and expanded by 3 to a total of 11 lanes. There will be a lavish ceremonial and VIP lounge, a state-of-the-art meet and greet gallery, a modern food court and ample parking space for taxis, cabs, private vehicles and shuttle buses.
