Uttarakhand, May 17: Devotees of Lord Shiva will soon be able to visit the Kedarnath temple with more comfort and in less time as the process of building a ropeway to this Hindu holy shrine has begun. The Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for ropeways to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib are ready.
Tourism plays a vital role in providing employment & income to people of Uttarakhand. In 2019, this hill state recorded 37 million domestic tourist arrivals showing the urgent need to provide better connectivity.
The union govt plans to build ropeway lines across the state to increase connectivity, particularly at the main tourist sites.
The forest land transfer process for Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath & Govind ghat-Ghangaria-Hemkund ropeway projects has begun. The length of the Sonprayag-Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project will be 13 km, and the estimated cost of the project will be more than Rs 985 crore.
