New Delhi, Sept 23: The Centre on Saturday began India’s first lighthouse festival in Goa as part of an effort to promote the country’s lighthouses as tourist attractions.

 

 

1. India’s first-ever Lighthouse Festival will be held at the historic Fort Aguada in Goa from 23rd-25th September, 2023.

 

2. Earlier, a campaign ‘Lighthouse Heritage Tourism’ was launched to transform 75 historic lighthouses into Tourism Spots.

 

 

 

3. The historic lighthouses are being renovated with adequate facilities to act as tourist spots.

 

4. The initiative aims to showcase the rich culture, significance, and allure of these magnificent structures whereby they can propel the prospect of tourism and power the local economy.

 

5. This would be a three-day gala event in carnival style with local artists, dance troupes, food and culinary stalls, music concerts, and similar activities to attract common people to Lighthouses.

 

6. The festival also witnesses historians, archaeologists, cultural anthropologists and many other people with interest in history, culture, and society participate in intriguing discussions about Indian marine history during this event.
