Mumbai, October 19: Mumbai’s first restaurant on wheels is now open to visitors coming to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) from Monday evening. This restaurant is located at the P’D Mello entrance of the terminus.
The restaurant has been made in a retro-fitted discarded rail coach and is able to accommodate 40 people. It has 10 tables and its interiors have been painted with a suburban railway.
The cuisine of this restaurant includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies, but will be limited due to lesser availability of the kitchen space. The coach will be placed alongside the heritage gully right at the entrance of this terminus. The gully has rail artefacts including narrow gauge locomotives, country-first locomotives, and also a printing press.
The theme inside the restaurant is said to be a depiction of Mumbai’s landmarks which goes along with the rail-theme. The restaurant does have sufficient parking space along with easy connectivity to the suburbs. According to reports, authorities will try to collaborate with Mumbai Darshan tours as the restaurant opens up to the public.
Also, the railways plan to have more such restaurants at more locations in the city including at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Kalyan and also at Borivali.
The railways are expected to earn almost Rs. 42 lakh from this restaurant, providing it to a contractor.
